Tune into Mental Health
COFFS Harbour Neighbourhood Centre is creating a flower-filled Connected Conservatorium to be planted on 1 November, at the close of October’s Mental Health Month.
With the theme of Tuning In, Mental Health Awareness Month organisers, Way Ahead, say, “Being present by tuning in has been shown to help build self-awareness, help make effective choices, reduce the impact of worry, and build positive connections.”
“Giving joy to others or volunteering often gives joy to the giver as much as the receiver,” Di Woods, Manager Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre told News Of The Area.
“To share the joy of paying it forward and spreading joy to others, Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre, across mental health month, has been encouraging community members to make and share a flower.
“Every flower is individualised, from carboard-pop stick flowers to some made from toilet paper or knitted…the floral creations are as diverse as their givers.”
Inspired by the Tune In theme, Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre has created a series of free Connect and Create art workshops for anyone and everyone in the community to enjoy, with everything you need to post to you. People can register online at https://www.trybooking.com/BUVBY.
Some members have been making their flowers here.
Each flower will be ‘planted’ in the Community Village to create a Connected Conservatorium display.
“If you would like to create and give a flower to share, please drop it into Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre, or just come and add yours to the ‘garden’.
“We hope that people, as they walk by or pop in for a coffee at Chill and Chat Café, can just share a simple smile.”
The flower conservatorium will be on display from planting the flowers takes place on Monday 1 November at the Community Village, 22 Earl St Coffs Harbour (behind Coles).
Di Woods adds, “Part of the role of Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre is to match people who want to volunteer with over thirty local organisations that offer a range of opportunities
“As we emerge from lockdown, many of these organisations will be welcoming new volunteers.”
